Do you think about your basement as a storage unit or simply a place to house the furnace or laundry? In most older constructed homes, builders often leaned toward that idea and configured basements in that way. Most are not insulated nor are the floors thick or even concrete. A turn of thinking developed during the 1950s, 60s and 70s that took basements out of the "don't look in here" stage to an era of keeping potential living space in mind. Though most basements are not finished during initial construction, the possibilities are endless with basement renovations.
